The last couple days I have been working on crochet bags for several people. I bought two big bags of old rug yarn from Goodwill, and I thought that they would make sturdy bags and purses. The first two I made I gave to neighbor girls, ages 12 and 10. They were very excited, but unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of them with the bags. One was a khaki and sky blue striped bag much like the one I made for Raven pictured here. The other bag was more of a “hobo” style, with a rounded bottom and two metal belt hooks attaching the handle. It was khaki, brown, and burgundy.
Then my daughter Raven requested a bag, and chose the colors. I think it turned out nice.

I started with a foundation chain, then single crocheted down one side of chain, 3 sc in the last chain, then single crocheted down the opposite side of the chain, with two more sc in the end and slip stitch to join. this made a nice base, and then I just double crocheted in the back loop around on the first round to start the body of the bag. I just simply double crocheted in rounds until it was the depth I wanted. Then, I added a sc contrast row at the top and made the handle. (You will notice in the picture that I got the handle twisted. I asked my daughter if she wanted me to fix it and she said no, she was just glad I made her a bag!)
After doing that rough rug yarn, I decided to try something a little softer. I wanted a little case/bag to hold my Microsoft Zune. I carry it in my purse but wanted something that would protect the screen a little better. So I broke out the soft baby sport weight yarn in lime and the Lion Brand fancy fur in a funky variegated color. I have had that fancy fur for I don’t know how long, planning to make fun scarves to give away. I decided it would make a nice soft case for my Zune. It was worked up much the way my bigger bags were, except holding the two strands together and adding a flap at the top to make a sturdier closure. I also made a one-sided handle but I might be changing that depending on how well it holds up when my Zune is inside it.
I have named this little bag “Rainbow Sherbet“ because of the yummy colors!
