These are a few of my favorite things

April 24, 2008

I thought I would share some of my favorite websites in different categories. I use Firefox for my browser, and have added StumbleUpon to use when I want to find a random page, but mostly I have come across these sites by searching for something specific on Google or through message boards.

I guess I will start with my favorite sites to send Raven in her free time:

(Of course, our computer is in a common area and she is always under supervision while online. So far these sites have been safe, but you should always check for yourself.)

Boowa and Kwala are always a favorite for both girls

Club Penguin

Fun School - We haven’t spent a whole lot of time here, but it looks like a lot of good educational games.

Edheads - this has some quirky games we like to play.

Dr Seuss in Seusville

My personal favorite to send them to is Wonderzone. It is ran by CEF and has lots of missionary adventures and bible devotions for kids.

And of course there are always the steady requests for Playhouse Disney, Noggin, NickJr, and PBS Kids.

For homeschooling, there are so many sites that I get ideas, curriculum, and information from it would be hard to list them all. I will try to list at least a few in this post, with more to come later.

Curriculum

Abeka

Educational Accents - used curriculum

CBD - Christian books, bibles, and homeschool curriculum

Rainbow Resource Center

Christ Centered Publications - great math curriculum for K-2nd grades

Christian Liberty Press

Resources and Ideas

Teaching Reading the Phonics Way

Teaching Your Toddler At Home

An Old Fashioned Education - lots of free resources here

The Bee Hive - has homework help for most subjects in elementary through adult levels. There is so much on this site I have still yet to discover it all. (To get to homework help click on school, then homework help center.)

Budget Homeschool - this has lots of resources to help make the most of the internet and help save money on curriculum. Some of the links are bad, but it is worth checking out.

Of course every homeschool parent should check out HSLDA first. Every time we move I look on here for info about our new state’s laws for homeschooling.

The Mailbox Magazine has been around for a long time giving teachers new and creative ideas for their classroom. They have several age ranges, and they come with reproducibles, and an online resource page for printing out masters, worksheets, etc.

That is all I have for tonight. But I will be posting more in the days to come. My fingers got tired of copying all those links! Please, add a comment and share your favorite sites with me!
